Portable. Powerful. Production-Ready:
Construction Sciences put the award winning Makinex Portable Power Box to the ultimate field test—and it delivered!
In a major step forward for sustainable jobsite power, Construction Sciences (CS) has successfully trialled the Makinex Portable Power Box (PPB) in high-demand concrete coring applications, with results that could change the way the industry approaches power on site.
The Australia-based materials testing and geotechnical services firm undertook the trial to determine whether battery power could truly replace traditional gas generators in coring operations across a range of concrete types—including tunnels and environmentally sensitive areas where noise and emissions pose significant challenges.

The results? A clear win for clean power.
Trial Highlights:

The PPB was put through its paces on three distinct concrete types:
-
High-Strength Aircraft Pavement (4.8 MPa, 19” thick):
Just 10% of the battery was consumed to drill three 4.3" diameter cores at a 3.2 kW draw—projecting 30+ cores per full charge, even when powering a drill and vacuum.
-
Concrete Base (4.5 MPa, 9.9” thick):
Estimated capacity of 60 cores per charge with vacuum—or potentially double that without it. The PPB’s performance matched or exceeded comparable petrol-powered generators.
-
Lean Mix with Asphalt (5.0 MPa, 9” thick):
Using only 7% battery for 20 cores at a 1.7 kW draw, the unit showed capacity for up to 280 cores per full charge (or 140 with vacuum).

“This trial clearly demonstrates the capabilities of battery power in real-world, high-performance concrete cutting jobs,” said a Makinex spokesperson. “Contractors no longer need to choose between power and sustainability—they can have both.”
A New Era for Power on the Jobsite
With zero emissions, whisper-quiet operation, and no need for fuel or refueling, the Makinex PPB proved itself a standout solution for contractors working in confined, remote, or noise-restricted environments.
Smarter Power Starts Here
Makinex is now inviting contractors, hire companies, and construction professionals to explore the PPB lineup and experience firsthand what quiet, clean power can do for their operations.
